The International Tennis Federation (ITF) has noted the rapid growth of tennis in Moldova and dedicated a separate article to it on its official website. The article, titled “Moldova ready for historic moment as Del Potro and Halep wait in wing” (https://www.itftennis.com/en/news-and-media/articles/moldova-ready-for-historic-moment-as-del-potro-and-halep-wait-in-wings/) the country is actually designated as one of the rapidly developing tennis centers in the region.

The focus is on the opening of the new National Tennis Center in Chisinau (May 23, http://www.ntc.md), the ATP Challenger 100 Moldova Open (May 24-31, http://www.moldova-open.com), and the upcoming Davis Cup matches (June 10-13). Particular attention is being given to the participation of Grand Slam champions Simona Halep and Juan Martin del Potro , who will be the main guests of the opening ceremony.
The ITF notes that just a few years ago, such a level of infrastructure and events for Moldovan tennis seemed unlikely. Today, however, the focus is on systemic development–from training facilities to hosting international tournaments.

The article also quotes the President of the Moldovan Tennis Federation, Ceslav Ciuhrii, who emphasized the importance of the changes taking place:
“The opening of the National Tennis Center is a historic moment for Moldovan tennis. For the first time, we’re receiving infrastructure that allows us not only to host international tournaments but also to build a comprehensive player development system. This is a step that immediately takes us to a new level and lays the foundation for years to come.”
He also noted the importance of combining major events in one place:
“Hostling ATP Challenger and Davis Cup matches on the same court sends a strong signal. It means Moldova is becoming a regular, not just an occasional, part of the international tennis calendar.”
The publication pays special attention to the significance of the participation of Halep and Del Potro: Their arrival is not only a celebration for the fans but also a powerful boost for the young players. It shows what they can strive for and the level they want to reach.
For Moldovan tennis, the appearance of such material on ITF resources is not just a publication, but an indication that the changes taking place are truly noticeable on the international stage.
Until recently, Moldova was on the fringes of world tennis. Today, it’s opening a modern National Tennis Center, hosting the ATP Challenger 100, preparing for the Davis Cup, and attracting world-class players.
And most importantly, this no longer looks like a one-off project, but like the beginning of a new stage of development.
