Moldova’s national team has learned its opponent in the 2027 Davis Cup World Group II play-offs. According to the draw held in London on 28 September, the Moldovan team will face Barbados. The tie will take place on 5–6 or 6–7 February 2027. The right to choose the venue, decided by lot, went to Moldova.
For Moldovan tennis, this is another step in a successful season. In June, on the courts of the National Tennis Center in Chișinău, from 10 to 13 June, the team won Group III of the Davis Cup Europe Zone. Moldova secured its place in the World Group II play-offs with a victory over Georgia, and in the match for first place it beat Latvia 2–0. The official Davis Cup website singled out Radu Albot’s contribution to the team’s success.

Moldova will play in the World Group II play-offs for the third time in four years. In 2024 and 2025, the team lost away to Uruguay and El Salvador, each time by a 3–2 scoreline. This time, Moldova has the right to choose the venue.
The winner of the tie will play in World Group II in September 2027. The losing team will continue its season in regional Group III.
Barbados reached the play-offs as the highest-ranked nation, by Nations Ranking, among the teams that finished fourth in the four regional Group III events in 2026. In February, the team lost its World Group II place after a 3–2 home defeat to Bolivia. The team’s leader, Darian King, has represented Barbados since 2009. In June, at the Americas III event in Costa Rica, he received the Davis Cup Commitment Award for his many years of service to the national team. In 2017, King rose to No. 106 in the world rankings and became the first tennis player from Barbados to win a match at ATP level.
In total, 26 ties involving 52 national teams will be played in the World Group I and II play-offs in early February.
