October 11 marks the 80th birthday of Anatolii Petrovich Stativka, an Honoured Coach of Moldova and a specialist in physical conditioning, sports biomechanics and training methodology. Throughout his long career, he has devoted himself to advancing sports science, developing effective approaches to athlete preparation and passing on his expertise to new generations of coaches.

In elite sport, spectators primarily see the athletes, their victories and their achievements. Yet behind every outstanding result lies the painstaking work of specialists who help athletes develop their physical abilities, refine their movements, improve endurance and unlock their potential.

Anatolii Stativka has dedicated much of his professional life to precisely this aspect of athletic development.

Anatolii Stativka’s professional interests have always extended well beyond conventional physical conditioning.

His work has placed particular emphasis on movement biomechanics, coordination, footwork, rhythm and the interaction between different physical attributes.

These elements are especially important in tennis. Movement speed, balance, effective load distribution and the ability to coordinate movements throughout the body all have a direct impact on performance on court.

Stativka takes a comprehensive approach to athlete development, focusing not only on strength and endurance but also on coordination, psychology and the characteristics of motor skills.

His professional experience spans several sports, and his accumulated knowledge has also found practical application in tennis. He has worked with members of Moldova’s national tennis team, as well as individually with Radu Albot, Ilia Snitari and Marta Kostyuk.

Working with Valeriy Lobanovskyi

One particularly noteworthy chapter in Stativka’s professional career was his collaboration with legendary football coach Valeriy Lobanovskyi and sports psychology specialist Anatolii Zelentsov.

Lobanovskyi is recognised as one of the pioneers of the scientific approach to football training, incorporating physical performance indicators and systematic analysis of athletes into the coaching process.

Working in an environment where sporting practice and scientific research were closely interconnected became an important part of Stativka’s professional development.

He subsequently continued to develop and apply his expertise across other sporting disciplines, including tennis.

Author of Scientific and Coaching Publications

Anatolii Stativka is known not only for his practical coaching experience but also for his commitment to sharing knowledge with fellow professionals.

His articles have appeared in specialist sports publications, including the Ukrainian magazine Tennis Club.

Among his works are articles entitled “Smart Feet” in Tennis, Rhythm, Music, Dance and Tennis, and Foot Biomechanics.

These titles alone illustrate the breadth of his professional interests.

His publications explore efficient movement around the tennis court, coordination, movement rhythm and the biomechanics of the musculoskeletal system.

His interest has never been limited to individual exercises. He has also sought to understand the scientific principles that explain why certain training methods are more effective than others.

Stativka attaches particular importance to the exchange of knowledge and experience between specialists from different sports, regarding it as a valuable source of fresh ideas and professional development.
